After the apparent death of Jean Grey, the focus of anime xmen is exactly where it should be – on Cyclops. Rather then pandering to the needs of Wolverine as the movieverse decided to, anime xmen comes to the conclusion that Scott’s personal lost can be used to reflect the wider situation for mutants. Of course the disadvantage to this is that Beast, Storm and Wolverine are starting to look like sidekicks. Through its early days at the moment, not every character can have the spotlight and the series is only going to be 12 episodes. Still, so far, so good.
The plot is pretty basic, concerning creepy mad scientists (U-Men) kidnapping innocent mutants in order to steal their organs. While I’m not much of a mutants verse human supremacists plot fan, certainly I would prefer to see Sinister or Apocalypse at the helm. Nevertheless it’s interesting that the anime is trying something new with villains who have never been animated prior rather then something which has been done to death, like the Dark Phoenix.
Verdict: Good
